Where is Brittany (Bretagne) ?
Brittany, Bretagne in French, Breizh in Breton, is situated north west of France, in Western Europe. With 2800km of stunning rugged coastlines along the English Channel sea for the north part and the Altantic ocean for the west part, Brittany is an enchanting region of rich Celtic historical past that will lead you to beautiful countryside of apple orchards and ancient forests with medieval towns and multitude of fishing harbours dotting its coastline. A country of legends, traditions and religious beliefs that remain strong still to this day.
The "world" picture below maps the country of France in red colour and Brittany in green.
The dark green indicates the current regional structure of Brittany's four departments of Morbihan, Finistère, Ille et Vilaine and Côte d'Armor, and the lighter green indicates the Loire-Altantique department previously part of Brittany before the 1973 French governmental reorganisation.
Although, Loire-Altantique is now part of the Pays de la Loire region, it is included in this holiday travel guide because of its historical and cultural attachment.
